We like to think that we are rational beings; humane, conscientious, civilized, thoughtful. But when things fall apart, even just a little, it becomes clear we are not better than animals. We have opposable thumbs, we think, we walk erect, we speak, we dream, but deep down we are still routing around in the primordial ooze; biting, clawing, scratching out an existence in the cold, dark world like the rest of the tree-toads and sloths.

how true, how true.
It takes so very little to lose what enlightenment we think we may have.
deep within our brain, at the base is the snake, or reptilian brain...when in danger or experencing the unknown, our primary brain takes over.

born in the year of the snake!
given that one of the people my daughter and I have been working with is someone who understands the flight or responses programmed into our brains. It has been fascinating learning the *why* of so many responses and reactions to situations are based on this primordial instinctual things which require a whack of work to re-do.
It's fascinating work and has helped me and the girl too.
too bad the spousal unit won't give it a go.

Flight or fright my instinctual response is - to think it's time for a drink yes?

I know all about that part of the brain first hand.
