It doesn't matter whether you believe that Jesus (Yeshuah ben Yosef) was/is the son of G-d or just the most radical of the Rabinnic Academy having been born an outsider by virtue of being son of a carpenter and not from a scholarly lineage. His death under Roman Law was a loss to the world either way.
It is indeed a very solemn day for Christians. A day for reflection.
I remember as a youth, we would leave school mid-day, walk across town for the service (there is no Mass in the Catholic church on Good Friday) then go home where my mother would insist on an afternoon of quiet activity. No tvs or radios. She allowed us to read or do quiet games since we didn't get the full gravity of it all but no boisterous activities.
I do not work on Good Friday. I have been taking vacation for years. We would do an outdoors Stations of the Cross walk with the kids in early years. Now it is for myself.
God Bless everyone. May your solemn reflection be matched with Joy on Easter.
The church music in the eastern Catholic tradition is so beautiful. We build on both the Jewish and Islamic faiths. The singing of prayers ( similar to how the cantering and chanting I know from attending synagogues), and the prostrations - Islamic style- lots of getting down on our knees and foreheads to the floor.
No tv, radio and heavy duty fasting no dairy, or meat.. vegan style. I try and enforce this at home and usually manage to get some of it, in spite of mixed religions in my home
But the services are my favourite of the year.
Whether it's Easter or Passover... it's a time of renewal. It's truly my favourite holiday.
I would love to attend Mass with you sometime T. I think it would be great.
While visiting my folks in AZ we went to a Greek Orthodox monastery and it was absolutely gorgeous. I am not sure about running around in black robes in the middle of the desert summer but it truly was a beautiful, peaceful place.

Amen, on this day of great sadness, that will unfold into great Joy!
Humans have not learned, nor have they not stopped fighting and they do not understand the power of the Lord.
Amen and Give Thanks for each breath we take, each love we've lost and give thanks to the loved ones we still have with us....
Bless you
Laurel

Your Good Friday sounds similar to ours Rudy.
