This is from my childhood. Every year we set it up together. My youngest bro would put the cow up there in the loft and the tradition continues in my own home. We never waited to put the Baby Jesus in until Christmas Eve. We probably were afraid we would forget where we had set it aside to wait. LOL!
Momma gave this to me a few years back. She knew that of all her kids I would be the most appreciative. Perhaps she was trying to help me find my Christmas Face that year as it was quite a horrible year. *shrugs*
I put it up w/o tears today and yet relaying the story has them streaming down my face. *sigh*
Regardless, I am working on finding my Christmas Face a day at a time.
Is there somewhere you can put it where Ronan the Barbarian can't get it?
heh! We have two Joseph's. I don't know where the second one came from but I suspect that Momma misplaced it one year, bought a new one, found the old one thus giving us two. I use the original and leave the replacement in the box.

I thought of saying "weren't they a band in the 60's?" referring to the 4 Tops and such types. Then I cheated and googled and they are a current band in San Diego LOL

I am sure I could put it up high enough where Ronan the Barbarian would leave them alone but I wonder if I would be able to see it LMAO
So far, he is leaving the tree alone so it is time to add some ornaments and see what he thinks of those. I am a bit concerned to see the skirt bunched up underneath all the time but I think that is just his foot slipping when he circles the sofa at high speed when it is supper time.

my manger has a loft in it like yours and I sometimes put the cow up there as well. :-)
Mine looks a little more manufactured than yours though. I really like yours.
We wait until Christmas Eve to put the baby Jesus in and when I have room (where I set it up) we move the kings closer each day until epiphany.
I am leery about putting it out this year because Ronan might think they are toys.
we had three Melthazars growing up because we broke or lost the other two wise men... then we found Bathazar and then there were four!

Between the group we may end up with enough for a whole second scene. I have the extra Joseph as well as an extra shepherd. There are extra Kings.

This is a nice creche... very traditional looking.
We do like rudy... Baby Jesus doesn't show up til christmas eve.
