Who are all these people? What is it all about? Why do we give new names to the people we care deeply about? Is their given name just not intimate enough to convey our true feelings? Or are we saying "damn, WTF were your parents thinking when they gave you THAT name?" *giggle*
When we are given terms of endearment by those who hold us close and then the relationship is lost we also seem to lose an identity as well. No, the name doesn't make us who we are, and yet to an extent we become the name. I don't believe that I could ever stomach being called by any of those names ever again by anyone save the person who originated it. They are a reflection of a time that I hold in my heart which can never be compared to nor duplicated.
I give names too. If you have a level of friendship with me you have seen me call you or others around me by sweetie, girlie, doll, darlin, and babes to name a few. I don't call just anyone by those names but reserve them for the ones that I hold closest to my heart.
I have names for my children as well, as if somehow the names I chose when they were born did not quite reflect that level of intimacy that I felt once I got to know these little wonders. I call my son Mr.Man and when he was younger, Mr. Buddy. My daughter is Missy, and when she was younger, Doodlebug. Even the cats are rarely called by the names they were given when they joined the family. Kitten was originally named Sammy Sunshine {by the x, which I hated that name, so I called him Cakes because of his obsession with any cake or bread like foods}. Oreo has a few nicknames as well. I normally call him Yo-Yo because he seems to be on a string at times bouncing up and down {this bouncing is also referred to as "the midnight crazies"} but his most common name is Orey.
I miss Cookie and Bella and Hottie and Pomegranate. I wish that life had not taken the nasty turns which ultimately caused me to lose them.

Yes, I too, have names I remember. I won't go over them, but it has always made me sad when I think on them, especially more recent ones.
Altho, I suppose some of them aren't lost, just refrained from being used, do to the circumstances of life.
Now, to so many, I am and remain.
T.I.M.
