Putting words in his mouth is not the way to communicate. Treat a person like he is an asshole and all you will see an asshole who can say nothing to the contrary. If you are not going to see anything redeeming in him at all the he has no redeeming qualities for you. He can't recover from that while you will it be this way.
So, go and keep your blinders on and ignore your problems and keep the company of those who don't think about such things and do nothing but say, "yes," to anything you think. It's far safer to keep that sort of company and much more fun I am sure. That's what is most important in life right - safe and fun? It seems you feel that is what works best for you. He is not an actor or a yes man and will not be what you will him to conform to.
So, I guess he is of no use here. He is very puzzled as to why it would hurt if he is such an asshole in your eyes - perhaps he deserves to be cast out. From what he hears from you, you should be kicking with joy that he is out of your way. He bows in veneration to your regal and seemingly unchanging verdict.
