The Facade
She sits quietly in the room recently devoid of all light save the candles she lit earlier. The flickering candlelight dances silently with the melancholy music resounding sympathetically in the background as she slowly reaches up to remove the mask that has hidden the grief she feels so deep within her soul.
Anyone looking in on this scene would gasp in shock at the drastic contrast between the façade she displays and the one she has chosen to keep hidden from view. They would contemplate the tragedies that had surely befallen this beautiful woman thus causing her to obscure her reality. There would be no opportunity for their minds to erase the imprint left by the immense sorrow exposed by the removal of the mask.
Revealed with the hesitant removal of her mask are the tears that have been suppressed for so long beginning to slowly make their silent journey down her cheeks. Translucent twin rivers of tears make paths down both sides of her face only to drip from her chin and land on the desk before her creating a lake of sadness. In her solitude she allows the tears to flow as she feels the emotions cleansing her soul from the pains that have so relentlessly attacked her. She sobs and shakes as the rivers turn into torrents releasing the toxins buried ever so deep within.
Shrugging she picks up her mask with a sigh.....
